The Associate Director of Marketing for Rare Disease Gene Therapy role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development and execution of strategic marketing initiatives for an innovative gene therapy product in Japan. Working closely with global and local stakeholders, you will play a key role in improving patient access, supporting treatment centre readiness, and driving commercial success in a growing and entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, execution and optimisation of annual marketing plans for a gene therapy product in alignment with business objectives and compliance requirements.

  • Collaborate with global marketing teams and cross-functional partners to develop strategic initiatives that support patient access and commercial growth.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders across Japan to support market development and engagement.

  • Manage marketing advisory boards, healthcare professional engagement activities and congress initiatives, including messaging, materials, training and event execution.

  • Monitor and enhance patient support programmes to help deliver an optimal patient experience and support product utilisation.

  • Identify, assess and support the development of Qualified Treatment Centres, including site qualification, contracting, readiness activities and site activation.

  • Partner with medical, regulatory, government affairs, patient advocacy and field teams to address barriers to patient management and implement effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong passion for bringing innovative therapies to patients affected by rare or ultra-rare diseases.

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or a related discipline, or equivalent qualification. MBA preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years' marketing experience and 3 years' sales experience within the biopharmaceutical industry.

  • Experience in rare disease, ultra-rare disease or gene therapy environments is highly desirable.

  • Ability to thrive within a growing organisation and contribute to the development of new processes and ways of working.

  • Strong analytical and market research skills, with the ability to translate insights into strategic actions.

  • Experience leading or contributing to market access initiatives aimed at expanding patient access.

  • Experience organising or supporting marketing advisory boards is preferred.

  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and creativity in developing and implementing brand strategies and tactics.

  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and customer-facing field teams.

  • Experience managing and working with external agencies and business partners.

  • Native-level Japanese language skills and strong English communication, presentation and listening skills.

  • Willingness to travel frequently.
