The General Manager role is a senior leadership opportunity to drive the commercial success of a globally recognised fashion brand’s A|X business in Japan. This position oversees retail operations, merchandising strategy, and market development to strengthen brand position and maximise profitability.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute retail and sales strategies aligned with global direction and Japan market opportunities, ensuring delivery of revenue and profitability targets
Lead merchandising functions, including assortment planning, pricing, buying, inventory management, and sell-through optimisation tailored to local consumer preferences
Oversee retail operations across all stores, ensuring operational excellence, consistent brand presentation, and a high-quality customer experience, while advancing omnichannel integration
Analyse market trends, competitor activity, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities and risks, communicating actionable insights to global stakeholders
Build strong relationships with key partners and stakeholders to support market expansion and brand visibility
Lead, coach, and develop retail and merchandising teams, fostering a high-performance culture and strengthening cross-functional collaboration
Manage financial performance including P&L, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control while ensuring compliance with corporate governance and reporting standards
Requirements
Extensive experience in fashion retail management, including leadership across both retail operations and merchandising functions
Proven track record of delivering sales growth and executing successful business strategies within a competitive market
Strong commercial awareness with analytical and data-driven decision-making capability
In-depth understanding of the Japanese retail landscape and trend-driven customer segments
Demonstrated experience leading teams and collaborating effectively with global and regional stakeholders
Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English
Strategic thinker with a hands-on leadership approach and strong execution capability
