Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive company and industry research using financial statements, market intelligence, channel checks, management meetings, and other relevant sources.
Evaluate investment opportunities and provide actionable recommendations supported by robust analysis and conviction-based research.
Develop an in-depth understanding of assigned sectors and maintain coverage of a universe of Japanese-listed companies.
Build, enhance, and maintain financial models, earnings forecasts, valuation frameworks, and scenario analyses.
Generate differentiated investment insights through fundamental, bottom-up research and independent thinking.
Meet regularly with company management teams, industry participants, and market experts to strengthen investment perspectives.
Monitor market developments, competitive trends, macroeconomic factors, and regulatory changes that could influence investment outcomes.
Collaborate with portfolio managers and investment professionals across global offices to share insights and research findings.
Continuously expand knowledge of investment strategies, financial markets, and emerging analytical techniques relevant to the investment process.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
At least two years of equity research experience covering Japanese equities within either a buy-side investment organisation or a sell-side research platform.
For candidates being considered at the Investment Analyst level, a demonstrated track record of successful investment recommendations and stock selection over approximately five years or more.
Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to assess businesses, industries, and investment risks independently.
Genuine passion for investing, company analysis, and long-term value creation.
Self-motivated and proactive, with the confidence to form independent views while remaining open to constructive challenge and debate.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment ideas clearly and persuasively.
Proven ability to conduct thematic and cross-sector research that contributes meaningful insights to the investment decision-making process.
Professional qualifications such as the CFA designation are advantageous but not essential.
