The Rare Disease Medical Manager (Strategy) role offers an opportunity to shape medical strategy for rare disease products within a highly collaborative and science-driven environment. This position plays a key role in driving medical excellence, engaging with leading scientific experts, and supporting lifecycle opportunities that address unmet patient needs through evidence-based medical initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of key components of the annual Japan Medical Plan, acting as a medical representative and strategic leader.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop medical strategies, provide scientific input, and support the creation of medically accurate promotional materials.
Identify unmet medical needs and contribute to lifecycle management opportunities that support patient-centred product development.
Drive publication strategy planning and execution, including scientific publications, congress presentations, and symposium activities.
Build and maintain strong scientific relationships with key opinion leaders, investigators, and thought leaders through high-level scientific exchange.
Support the design, approval, and implementation of post-approval studies, investigator-sponsored studies, Phase IV studies, and locally driven early-stage clinical trial plans.
Generate and leverage medical insights from scientific meetings, advisory boards, and stakeholder interactions to inform local and global medical strategies.
Requirements
Advanced degree in a life sciences discipline such as MD, PhD, or PharmD preferred.
Minimum of 3 years' experience within a pharmaceutical company in Research and Development or Medical Affairs.
Strong scientific expertise with the ability to interpret clinical data, understand treatment trends, and translate expert feedback into actionable insights.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive relationships internally and externally.
Deep understanding of local pharmaceutical regulations, industry codes of practice, and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of healthcare systems, regulatory environments, payer landscapes, public health considerations, and broader industry trends.
Business-level English proficiency, including participation in global scientific discussions and conferences.
Native-level Japanese language skills.
Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
