"Role
Seeking a candidate with hands-on experience in investment research and stewardship reporting. Ideal applicants will have a background in long-only investing, emphasizing bottom-up analysis, stewardship reporting, and proxy voting. This position requires strong knowledge of fundamental research and stewardship practices, including shareholder engagement and proxy voting processes. High proficiency in data handling-especially using Excel and PowerPoint-is important for maintaining accurate records. Strong professional communication skills in both English and Japanese are essential.
Responsibilities
- Investment Research
Perform detailed fundamental bottom-up research across assigned sectors and deliver investment recommendations supported by financial models and written buy notes.
- Engagement and Proxy Voting
Actively participate in shareholder engagement and proxy voting activities, while contributing to the development and enhancement of the team’s strategies in these areas.
- Stewardship Reporting
Work closely with PAMJ marketing teams to produce annual stewardship reports for institutional clients and prepare yearly self-assessments in accordance with the Japanese Stewardship Code. The role also involves meeting clients to present stewardship reports.
- Data Management for Stewardship Reporting
Collaborate with the team’s assistant to maintain and update databases, ensuring precise and reliable records of proxy voting, shareholder engagement activities, and investment-related data."

Required Experience / Abilities / Skills :
Certifications:
- CFA designation and the CFA Sustainable Investing Certificate (formerly the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing) are preferred.
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in active equity investing, with emphasis on long-term, bottom-up analysis and stewardship-related responsibilities.
Technical Skills:
- Strong capabilities in fundamental company research and financial modeling.
- Independent thinker with deep expertise in assigned research sectors and a demonstrated investment track record.
- Competence in data management to support company research workflows and maintain proxy-voting databases.
- Familiarity with the Japanese Stewardship Code and local proxy-voting practices.
- Understanding of ISS proxy-voting guidelines.
- Ability to stay informed on industry trends and regulatory developments related to stewardship and proxy voting.
- Professional-level English writing skills for preparing documents, and strong verbal communication skills, particularly when collaborating with the product manager and the responsible investment team in Europe.
Soft Skills:
- Collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and strong communication abilities.
- Effective presentation skills for client reporting and formal presentations.
